Program Highlights:

The Wreckers - A Dramatic Overture and On the Cliffs of Cornwall, a Dramatic Prelude by Ethel Smyth: We'll start the program with the overture to Dame Ethel Smyth's timeless opera, "The Wreckers," setting the stage for an afternoon of musical adventure. Be carried away to the cliffs of Cornwall as the "Prelude to Act 2," where the locals lure ships and their crews to death and destruction on their rugged coastline. Murder, love, and ethical compromise – what better inspiration for dramatic music written by a masterful woman composer?

Sea Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams: Feel the wind in your hair and the ocean spray as we present the maritime quick march, Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Sea Songs." You'll be sailing through sea chanties that are both bold and beautiful.

Danish Folk Music Settings by Percy Grainger: Immerse yourself in Denmark's rich, folkloric traditions with the spirited and charming settings by Percy Grainger. These tunes will transport you to the picturesque landscapes of Scandinavia and music that tells tales sure to surprise all listeners.

Through an Open Door by Nathan Daughtery: Experience a lush musical setting of Dvořák's "Goin' Home" with Nathan Daughtery's "Through an Open Door." This modern interpretation will give you a fresh perspective on a beloved classic.

Symphonic Variations Gil Blas by Jules Strens: Inspired by the coming-of-age adventures of Gil Blas in Spain, Jules Strens' "Gil Blas Symphonic Variations " takes you on an exotic musical journey inspired by the classic novel by Alain-René Lesage.

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of musical brilliance and emotional depth. Our 49th season concludes with a concert that promises to "blow your mind." Don't miss your chance to share this remarkable musical journey with us!
