QUEEN’S GAMBIT

August 21st is the date we will present our annual SSW concert at Youngberg Hill!

Salem Symphonic Winds will return to Youngberg Hill in McMinnville for the performance of Queen’s Gambit at 6 pm on Sunday, August 21. John Skelton will direct the band through a variety of light music selections in celebration of the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, and all things British.

Jeff Witt will join the band as the featured vocalist. Jeff teaches choir and theatre at Central High School in Independence and is a veteran actor often gracing the stage at the Pentacle Theatre in Salem. He will sing A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Feeling Good, Anthem From Chess, On the Street Where You Live, and more.

Joan Paddock, Professor of Music at Linfield University and internationally renowned trumpet and Lur soloist, will be featured as a cornet soloist on the theme and variations on The British Grenadiers, a traditional British marching song that dates back to the 17th century.
